Workshops.

Our workshops are led by people who care about delivering and developing fantastic education. After each workshop, you leave with tips, tricks and ideas that you can immediately use when you return to your department.

Following your requests from previous years, we've selected topics covering the breadth of medical education.  We've also extended the workshop sessions to 90 minutes to allow for more creativity and conversation in each session.

2018 Official Lineup!

Supercharge Your Feedback Skills with Simon Carley.
If you had one shot, one opportunity, to improve every educational moment, from this point forwards, would you capture it or just let it slip?

Feedback is the key to education.  Whether on the shop floor, in simulation, in workshops or in supervision meetings, you’re constantly giving and receiving feedback.  This workshop will explore all aspects of feedback through interactive exercises designed to change the way you deliver AND receive feedback in future.

Your current and future learners want you to come to this workshop. Don’t miss out.

‘The Games Workshop’ Workshop with the EM3 FOAMed Team!
Shall we play a game?

Want to take your teaching to the next level? Join the #EM3 team for this session on designing games to support your teaching. By the end of the session we aim for the group to have generated a number of educational games that can be taken back to your department or shared online.

Please be prepared for creativity (read as crayons, card and glue sticks). If you can bring with you some crafty things such as pens / scissors we will provide some basic equipment too.

There will be a prize for the best game in each workshop, and we might even cover some educational theory as well so why not come and have a play…

Clinical Decision Making - How to Teach Expertise with Simon McCormick.
Making clinical decisions is at the heart of what we do but are we any good at teaching it?

Do we even understand how we do it ourselves?

Let’s have a quick think about how we make clinical decisions and how that changes with developing expertise before we fire up the Random Patient Generator, explore our thinking in practice and discover some of the heuristics and biases which both help and hinder us during our daily practice.

Slide Design is More Than Using a Template with Ross Fisher.
A presentation is the product of the story [part 1], the supportive media [part 2] and its delivery [part 3]. For too long the supportive media has been a script, a handout and often, simply a template. Good design will raise the value of any presentation, yet few are aware how to do this.

This interactive workshop will cover the basics of design, fontography, image composition and construction of data slides. Your next presentation will be significantly improved if you come to this workshop.
